Latest Nucleus Research ERP Value Matrix Finds Oracle JDEdwards Maintain Leadership

In a Market of Innovation, Sage and Oracle PeopleSoft struggle to keep up

Nucleus ERP Value Matrix: Oralce JDEdwards Maintains Leadership
THE BOTTOM LINE: Enterprise application vendors have continued to invest in making their applications more usable, as buyers expect support for broader user productivity and enablement. With leaders accelerating the pace of releases focused on user interface (UI), mobile, and in-application data to align themselves with Dark Cockpit principles, others have been challenged just to maintain their position.

BOSTON – November 6, 2014 – Nucleus Research has released the enterprise resource planning (ERP) Technology Value Matrix for the second half of 2014, showing significant shifts in positioning as vendors increase their investments in usability and functionality. Value Matrix leaders are also noticeably accelerating the cadence of release cycles with a focus on user interface (UI), mobile, and in-application data.

“Leaders in this Matrix continue to make significant investments in new user interfaces, embedded analytics, and industry-specific functionality that accelerate time to value and drive greater user productivity,” said Rebecca Wettemann, VP of research at Nucleus Research. “Significant investments by leaders are increasing the gaps between leaders and laggards and challenging others to increase their investment just to keep up.”

In addition to industry capabilities that drive faster time to value and embedded in-memory capabilities that make new realms of decision making possible, leaders are investing in new opportunities to make data richer and more current with Internet of things (IOT) initiatives and targeted, optimized mobile applications.

“We’re seeing IOT emerge as an area where ERP customers can drive greater automation, much richer data for decision making, and more proactive and predictive business execution,” said Anne Moxie, analyst at Nucleus Research. “Innovators are targeting key verticals and processes with roadmaps and partnerships that make IOT benefits a reality instead of just a shiny object.”

Reflecting the advances in ERP, this Value Matrix highlights vendors that have further increased application usability and delivered embedded analytics and industry best practices that support better decision making. In contrast, non-leaders such as Oracle PeopleSoft are being challenged just to maintain their position despite investments in areas such as toolkits and incremental industry functionality. Nucleus also noted several significant shifts from vendors such as QAD and IFS, who moved into the expert quadrant based on their functionality investments.
