have a question on copying custom objects across 2 JDE instances (so 2 different deployment servers and its XE so there reportedly no .ZIP option).
could you help?

The easiest solution is Boomerang by Everest Software.
Without that tool, you could look at creating datasources, pathcodes, OCMs & OMW Rules that would move object code from instance-1-pathcode to instance-2-pathcode.
Without more information, the money spent on 2 Site Limited licenses (one for each instance) could be well worth it.
