Quick Tip: To Which Active Directory Server Did You Authenticate?
From time-to-time, I have to do a little investigating into Active Directory. It usually involves verifying settings for JDE EnterpriseOne LDAP integration.
My tool of choice to accomplish this is Sysinternals Active Directory Explorer.
It’s a great tool. The only thing I usually have trouble with is determining to which server or Active Directory database I should connect. Usually, this is resolved easily by entering the domain name. However, depending on how the network is configured, you may need to specify a server name. This can get a little confusing because you need to connect to a Domain Controller.
The easiest way that I have found to determine the name of an Active Directory Domain Controller is typing the following into the Windows Commandline:
echo %LOGONSERVER%
I hope that helps someone out there. If not, at least I have it in my notes. 😊
