How To Test A SQL Server Connection

Read Time:26 Sec

There is an easy way to test your SQL Server connection when running Windows without any special software.

I found this solution on StackOverflow.

  1. Add a new blank text file to the Desktop
  2. Change the file extension to “udl” (Universal Data Link)
  3. Double-click the file you just created
  4. By default the connection will use the Microsoft OLE DATABASE Provider for SQL Server
  5. Configure the settings on the Connection tab
    • ServerName or ServerName\Instance ame
    • Login method
    • Select a database
    • Click [Test Connection]
