Planner ESU
A Planner Update or Planner ESU as they are also known, is created with special features that update the specifications and DLLs in the Planner path code during the initial setup process. It is very similar to the client update used to distribute update packages to a workstation, but this updates the Deployment Server. A Planner ESU is the only way to distribute enhancements and fixes to the software programs used during installation, upgrades and updates. A regular ESU does not update objects used when you are signed on to the JDEPLAN (or PSFTPLAN) environment. Like ‘regular’ ESUs, Planner ESUs also contain objects which must be merged into each environment (for example for packages, OMW, etc.).
The purpose of a Planner ESU is to bring Fixes and Enhancements directly into the Planner pathcode. For example, a fix in a Software Update that changes the Sales Order Entry application is not needed in the Planner Path code because you would never run the Sales Order Entry application from your Planner or Deployment environments. However, a change to the Software Updates Application, P96470, is needed in your Planner pathcode as well as your other pathcodes/environments. These changes to the Planner pathcode come in the form of Planner ESUs.
